Many dog owners do not train their dogs or young puppies either because they do not have the time to or do not see the need to at all. So, why do you have to train your puppy then? You might feel that your little puppy is very adorable as it is without any need to train it. However, what happens when your puppy grows up into a full grown dog? Will it still be adorable with a bog dog running all over you and refusing to heel when commanded or which can even topple you over just so as to get at the food in your hand? Will you still find it cute then?
The objective of training a puppy is that well-trained puppies are happy dogs because they will be welcomed wherever they go. When a puppy is able to behave itself around people, is able to follow commands properly, it will become a favourite among the owner’s friends, especially among young children. Such trained puppies can be taken on walks in parks without any fear that they will go missing when you release the leash.
Nobody would like to bring out puppies which are unruly, tend to run wild or liked to beg for food at the dinner table. They tend to become a nuisance at family outings and have to be locked away at home instead. The untrained puppy will be even more difficult to handle if you have very young children at home because it might scratch them. It will then be missing out on a lot of fun as when you are playing with your little children, the untrained puppy will have to be locked away. Thus, to answer the question, ‘why train your puppy?’ it is actually to ensure that you do not deprive your puppy of all the fun and joy it could have enjoyed.
Apart from behavioural problems which you will get from not training your puppy, there are also the health problems which you have to consider. You do not want your puppy to grow unhealthy or become obese when it indulges in your table scrapes which are usually not suitable for your puppy to eat.
When you bring a puppy home, you have to realize that its life span is approximately 10 to 16 years so if you train your puppy from the start, you can be ensured of many rewarding years with your dog. Stop asking ‘why train your puppy?’ and start doing the act of training it now!
