When choosing a dog breed, your biggest consideration should be your personality. It’s hard to maintain a good and harmonious relationship with a pet if you have contrasting personalities. For puppies, it’s hard to do puppy training if your personalities clash—you and your puppy might only get frustrated over time. That defeats the purpose of getting a dog, which is to love and take care of a pet. Compatibility issues will be avoided if you carefully choose the dog breed that suits your personality.
So, before choosing the right dog breed for you, think about your personality first. Are you a touchy-feely type? A friendly dog would be perfect for you. If you are a person who’s quiet and reserved, you need a dog that doesn’t bark often. If you are a jock, an active dog breed is ideal for you. Make sure that your chosen breed complements your personality.
If you are sports-minded or have an active lifestyle, active dogs are perfect for you. Active dog breeds that you may like include the Labrador, Cocker Spaniel, and Fox Terrier.
Low-maintenance dog breeds are great for happy-go-lucky people. These breeds are Fox Terrier, Boxer, Pug, and Airedale.
Quiet dog breeds that don’t need much exercise suit people who prefer staying at home and reading books by the window. If you are that type of person, you may consider getting a Chihuahua, Boston Terrier, or King Charles Spaniel.
Friendly people appreciate friendly dogs, of course. If you want a friendly dog breed, consider getting any of the following: Golden Retriever, Old English Sheepdog, Labrador Retriever, and Brittany Spaniel.
If you like kids or if you have kids at home, these dog breeds make good companions for them: Beagle, English Cocker Spaniel, Old English Sheepdog, Basset Hound, and Pug.
Regardless of the dog breed you choose, make sure that you’re going to love your pet in its entire life. Owning a pet does involve commitment, and it starts by choosing the right breed.

This makes great sense. Some people would get a dog just because they think it looks cool without knowing its personality.
I would even go as far as saying that choosing a puppy is just like choosing a life partner in the sense that you have to really take into account both your personalities.
Great read.
Wow! great tips. My sister has a puppy too. I would definitely gonna tell her these stuffs.
I agree with your post when it comes to choosing a puppy, it should be jive with your personality. I have a Golden Retriever and he’s just 5 months old.

Dog’s are really man’s bestfriend, but of course it depends on the man how he treat the dog. As early as possible, we should pick puppies according to our character. It’s good to have a companion that you know will never leave you.
Totally agree with you, before you get your self a puppy beware of that a dog needs almost as much time as kid, so don’t leave your dog home alone for to long.
Interesting post, I’ve never looked at this way before. Each breed and dog will have their own personality traits, and it is crucial that it fits well within your current lifestyle that way your dog can be a part of your life and not just a hobby or something to look at!
This post has been really helpful. I have a West Highland Terrier, so I was pretty lucky to find that he is a gentle and friendly dog with a ‘chilled’ personality. This has been a godsend as I have to travel for work. He is great in the car and settles really well. I know many friends who have more boisterous dogs that cannot settle very easily. I will certainly pass on the tips here to anyone who is thinking of getting a dog for the first time.
I believe in personal touch will make any dog understand the master. So, I exploit this factor.
I love dogs…
they are really my best friends… I always have great time with them.
